A family business, run the family way

Help at Home by Jen and Co Ltd is a small, family-run company based at 466 Caerleon Road, Newport — built on the simple belief that a bit of regular, friendly help can make a home feel like itself again.

Meet Jen

It started with a neighbour

Jennifer Maria Allen, the company's director, began by doing a bit of shopping and housework for an elderly neighbour on Caerleon Road who was far too proud to ask for help. Word travelled the way it does in Newport — over garden fences and in the queue at the bakery — and soon Jen was helping a handful of households each week, with her family roped in to drive, cook and carry.

What began as neighbourliness grew into HELP AT HOME BY JEN AND CO LTD, but the way we work has not changed: small, personal, and based on actually knowing the people we visit. Jen still meets every new household herself, and the same helpers return week after week.

We are not a big agency, and we do not want to be. We know our clients' names, their cats' names, and exactly how they take their tea.

How we work

Because we are a small family firm, the person who visits you is someone we know well and trust completely. These are the standards every visit is held to.

Companionship first

The jobs matter, but so does the chat. Visits are never so rushed that there is no time to sit down.

Never hurried

We allow generous time for each visit so nothing is done at a gallop and no one feels like a task on a list.

Your home, your rules

We work the way you like things done — your products, your cupboards, your routines, your pace.

With your say-so, we check in with relatives after visits so everyone has peace of mind.

Every helper who visits your home is known personally to our family. Each one is DBS-checked, fully insured, and trained by Jen in the way we expect things done — which mostly comes down to common sense, honesty and kindness.

Our director, Jennifer Maria Allen, is personally involved in matching every helper to every household — and if something is not right, you ring Jen, not a call centre.

The people behind the visits

Jen runs the rota and meets every new household. Her family handles driving, garden help and the occasional emergency shelf-putting-up. Between them they cover Newport, Caerleon, Christchurch, Langstone, Rogerstone, Bassaleg, Malpas and Ridgeway.

Something we cannot help with?

If a job is beyond us — plumbing, electrics, heavy tree work — we will say so plainly and, where we can, point you towards someone trustworthy. We would rather be honest than helpful-sounding.
